This is our ninth post in the Meet Newmind blog series. If you enjoy it, check out our Meet Newmind posts from past months!

Another Groundhog Day has come and gone, and Punxsutawney Phil only took a single glance before heading back home. While we wait another 6 weeks for Spring, we’re going to take you back to Newmind’s source with one of the original Newminders: Ryan Hawkins.

Ryan grew up in Goshen, Indiana, and currently lives there with his wife Jami and their 9-year-old son, Pete. He got married to Jami right at 18, and they’ve been together for 11 years!

Newmind Number 3

Always fascinated with technology and computers, Ryan was always the go-to computer guy for his family growing up, and he always built his computers himself. Fellow Newminder Ryan Russey is his brother-in-law, and in mid-2009, he was tipped off that there was an opening at Newmind Group. Ryan took a chance on it, and in July 2009 he became employee number three, alongside Ryan Russey and Dan Jefferies.

“I handle a wide variety of responsibilities here, but my main two are Google Apps deployments and backup monitoring. I normally work from home, so unfortunately I don’t get to spend a ton of time together face to face (Hangouts excluded) with my coworkers, but 100% my favorite part about working here is all of the awesome people that I do get to work with.”

Ryan Hawkins Fast Facts:

How have you been spending your time lately?

My in-law’s live on a lake, so we spend as many weekends there as possible in the summer. I love going on bike rides with my family around the trails in Goshen. Pete and I also play a lot of Minecraft. I also really enjoy riding and working on my vintage mopeds.

If you could enlighten every acquaintance with one movie and one album, what would those be?

Movie: Jurassic Park (in 5th grade when it came out on VHS, I watched the movie every day after school for a week straight)
Music: Sigur Rós – ()

If you were forced to leave the country for 10 years, where would you go to settle down?

The only country I have ever been to outside the US is Canada, so I just have to go off of places that I think I would like to live. With that in mind, I would say Iceland. It just looks like a really beautiful and peaceful place to be and live.

If you could have coffee with one person from history, who would it be?

I would choose Albert Einstein because he just seems like he was a pretty cool cat.

Favorite place to eat in Kalamazoo?

In Kalamazoo, it’s gotta be Crows Nest. With their all day breakfasts, and amazing burgers, you really can’t go wrong.

In Goshen, it’s Venturi. Not only because my wife is the bartender there, but also because they have the most amazing food and craft cocktails.
