10 meetups, events, and groups for IT pros to network in Detroit

So you want to connect with IT managed services in Detroit, but you don’t know where to start… Needless to say, the city has loads to offer, and with Newmind Group’s 2nd annual Build IT Together Detroit coming up in September, we were looking for other places for organizations to connect with IT, so we collected some for you!

Meetups

Spice Corps
Spice Corps, an offshoot of the popular IT networking site SpiceWorks, has a Metro Detroit chapter which puts on a monthly face-to-face meetup to share ideas, thoughts, and tips for individuals working in IT and managed services.

Mobile Monday Detroit
Mobile Monday is a monthly meetup at the Compuware building, set on helping companies keep up with new mobile technology. Make new connections and learn how peers are using new apps and hardware to excel.

IT in the D
Yes, I’m talking about the crew behind the weekly podcast. From “pink slip parties”, casual meetups, to live listening events, IT in the D has been integral in bringing tech people together and getting them talking about topics that matter.

Bizdom Networking Events
Bizdom puts on networking events, usually in the Madison Building, specifically for tech and local startups in Detroit, and they bring in many interesting speakers from the industry. They’re hosted in the Madison Building near Tiger Stadium.

Build IT Together Meetups
In anticipation for Build IT Together conference in September, the Build IT Together group will be putting on meetups for local IT professionals and business leaders interested in technology. Stay tuned on http://buildittogether.co for upcoming events!

IT or Tech Events

Techonomy Detroit
Techonomy Detroit takes a comprehensive look at technology and its impact on the way we live—this year marks the fourth annual event, which promotes interactive discussion as well as speaker-led sessions. They also offer deeper discussions in their Techonomy Labs program. The 2015 conference takes place on September 15th.

Tech Week Detroit
Tech Week puts on an annual series of lectures in Detroit, featuring a range of sessions, like cloud computing, social media, recruiting—all led by tech industry leaders. These sessions come in the form of keynote addresses, fireside chats, and panel discussions. Tech Week 2016 should be taking place around April.

Build IT Together Detroit
Build IT Together Detroit is an annual conference for IT professionals and tech-minded leaders, with an emphasis on interactivity—apart from speaker-led sessions, the conference includes workshops, Q&A panels, and periods for networking. Everyone will be sharing experiences and knowledge, so attendees will have something to take home with them. Build IT Together Detroit 2015 will be at Bamboo Detroit on September 10th, 2015.

Social Communities

Spicecorps Detroit
Spiceworks is a social network tailored specifically for connecting with IT professionals, with millions of users to connect with, as well as resources like how-tos and message boards. Check out their active Metro Detroit community to look for connections online!

Linkedin IT Groups
When all else fails, Linkedin remains one of the largest and best-supported social networks for connecting with professionals of any field. With deep search features and a wealth of different subgroups, it’s a great place to begin your search for IT and managed services providers.
